The (NSCDC) has denied allegations of unpaid promotion arrears and withheld welfare funds, clarifying that the service’s leadership does not control salary disbursements.
The statement follows claims by some personnel that promotion arrears from 2022 to 2024 had not been paid despite repeated assurances.
NSCDC Spokesman Afolabi Babawale said on Thursday that the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, inherited five years of unpaid arrears when he assumed office in 2021. He added that arrears from 2015 to 2019 have already been cleared, benefiting more than 37,000 personnel.
“Reports suggesting non-payment of promotion arrears and withholding of welfare funds are false, misleading, and malicious,” Babawale said. He noted that payments are managed by the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director-General of the Budget Office and the Accountant General of the Federation—not the NSCDC.
Babawale further explained that arrears for 2023 and 2024 are pending approval and budget release, while the 2025 promotion results were only released in December 2025 and are still being processed for inclusion in the budget. He urged personnel to remain patient, assuring ongoing engagement with government authorities to facilitate payment.
