Residents Express Worry Call For Govt Intervention Over Unhealthy, Reckless driving of Quarry Trucks Activities In Obaagun



Natural resources which is globally agreed to be benefits for the people around the community they are found, but the case is otherwise for the people of Obaagun and nearby towns in Ifelodun Local Government Area,Osun State.


The presence of Quarry Samlong at Obaagun has been a blessing to the ancient community which shares boundaries with Ikirun and Iree, but in the recent days, residents of the town are beginning to complain over the manner of the quarry operation especially in the aspect of their delivery trucks. 



At least in a day 10 to 12 trucks fully loaded with granite, (small rocks ) pass through Obaagun down to Iree, Eripa, Otan Ayegbaju, Ila, while others through Ikirun roads


Quarry trucks has cause a lot of damages like: damaging roads, blocking of roads whenever any of the truck broke down, Reckless driving, over speeding.



Last two month, Quarry trucks cause an accident along Emiloju way, kills 2 people. They have cause a lot of severe damages to the society, many at time the truck driver neglect covering their trucks when they carry granite, white granite, which resulted to splitting of granite of the road, at times they fall from the trucks and strike the wind screen of a motor, blowing white dust into people eyes when they fall. 



Residents of the host community have , however, expressed their displeasure of this unbearable causes of the quarry company as damages caused by them are numerous.


In an interview with leadership of NURTW, Iree chapter, the transport workers expressed their agony of how the Quarry trucks drivers drive on the road, they made it know to our correspondence that most of their car windscreen has been broken, while the dust from the trucks affected them a lot when they fail to cover their loads 



Speaking to Motorist in the town, they also lamented on the reckless driving and attitude of not covering their loads which has become rampant among  the quarry trucks, which they want Governor to take necessary action on it .


Several students have also lodged their complain, during our invitation to individual on campus and also some sent an email to show their heart desires towards efforts to halt mitigating problems caused by the trucks.

Also, traditional Chiefs of different communities closed to the Quarry site expressed their displeasure while speaking with our correspondent.


One of the chief who does not want his name mentioned said "We are using this opportunity to tell our dear governor to help his people at Iree, Ikirun and it vicinity to solve the problem before it will get to a critical stage."  


This call for immediate intervention of Osun State government, non governmental bodies, FRSC, and Nigerian Police Force to caution them, and also mandate it for them to Cover their loads whenever they are moving 


We are calling on government to take necessary action on this issue of reckless driving and not covering their loads  before it cause a lot of damages to the society
