According to reports, Antoine Griezmann and Hugo Lloris were 'happy' when Karim Benzema left the France squad due to injury. They never accepted his return in the first place because of their leadership status within the group.
Giroud doesn't have any problem with Benzema, he even wanted to start alongside him in the XI. It was Griezmann and Lloris who struggled to accept Benzema's return because of his leader status.
Many players in France NT support Benzema, but the French Football Federation warned them about supporting him publicly. They wanted to use Benzema as a scapegoat incase anything goes wrong.
People at the French Football Federation said after the Euro 2021: "If anything goes wrong, we can blame it on Benzema."
Deschamps thought Benzema was too big of a player to keep around while not playing (due to injury) and it would keep a lot of negative media spotlight on the France NT, so he decided to exclude him.
Benzema when he returned to Madrid was told his injury is minor & he could’ve played against Tunisia. Benzema made the decision to retire once he was sent home by France but he waited for World Cup to end to announce it.
